English: Chapter 5-Capitalization and Punctuation

Next week we will continue to talk about capitalizing proper nouns and adjectives.  We will also work on writing and using our comma skills in a prediction story.

Reading: Novel Study

We will practice our reading skills while reading a novel.  Some students will be reading The Kid in the Red Jacket and some will be reading a book called, Crash.

Have your child summarize what they've read so far in their new novels!!!

Social Studies: Chapter 6-The Colonies will be next!

In chapter 6 we will learn about Life in the English Colonies:

Lesson 1-Working and Trading-  We will have our "TRADE FAIR" on Tues. 12/17.  The students will have fun trading their homemade items.

Lesson 2:  Cities, Towns and Farm in Colonial Times
Lesson 3:  Everyday Life in the Colonies (We will learn about Ben Franklin)
Lesson 4:  Slavery in the Colonies

Science: Ch. 14-States of Matter

We will learn:

Lesson 1:  What is the Structure of Matter?
Lesson 2:  What are the Physical Properties and Changes in Matter?
Lesson 3:  What Are Chemical Properties and Changes in Matter?

Have your child bring home their science book and read some of the lessons we have covered!!!

5.NBT.6-Find whole-number quotients of whole numbers with up to four-digit dividends and two-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.
