Mrs. Spakausky's Puppies say, "HI!"
Week of May 14th
Important Dates:
May 18-- Early Dismissal
Reading: "Journeys" - We will begin a novel study of the book Love that Dog, by Sharon Creech. Love that Dog is a free verse poem written in a diary format. It is written from the perspective of a young boy who resists poetry assignments from his teacher. Throughout his journey, he learns to appreciate, and to even enjoy, the art of poetry. As we read this book, we will continue to examine the literary elements of poetry, and students will create their own poetry book.
English: We will continue to work on Narrative Writing.
Spelling: Unit 30 will feature 16 spelling words and 9 vocabulary words, with a focus on the “ought” and “ound” rules. The test will be on Friday.
Social Studies: We will continue our study of the West. The MAP test of the West states will be on Tuesday! This week we will read and learn how the Rocky Mountains are known for their majestic peaks and beautiful scenery.
Science: We will continue chapter 4, The Human Body. We will take a look at the circulatory system and learn how this system carries oxygen and nutrients. There will be an open note quiz on lesson one on Thursday.
Mrs. Spakausky's and Mrs. K.'s Math Class: We will complete Unit 6, Multiplication, Division, Data and Fractions. We will continue to learn strategies for division using a ratio table. The test is tentatively scheduled for Thursday May, 17th. A practice test will be sent home to help prepare for the test.
