May 13-17

Coming Up:
Monday, May 13-Class Marble Party for good behavior.
Please remind your child that tomorrow is our marble party.  
They may:
*bring a blanket/sleeping bag, stuffed animal, pillow
*wear p.j.'s
*bring an extra snack (healthy or not) and drink (with a top)

Starting at 1:00ish, we will have:
*a small class talent show (optional) for those who wanted to show a talent off
*a 15 minute extra afternoon recess
*finish with a movie/"campout" with our blankets and stuffed animals
*eat extra snacks

Tuesday, May 14-Edward Tulane Play (Dress nice:)
Please send a SACK LUNCH to school for your child on 5/14. We are uncertain about the time that we will return from the Edward Tulane field trip & may not have an opportunity for hot lunch. Children will be able to purchase milk if needed. Thanks!

Spelling - Words with "kn", "gn" & "wr"
This week's spelling list consists of words that contain silent letters such as knob, gnome, and wreck.  The final TEST is scheduled for Friday, 5/17.
Reading- Unit 2 - "Journeys" - A Poetic Journey
We will continue the novel study of the book Love that  Dog, by Sharon Creech. As we read this book, we will continue to examine the literary elements of poetry, and students will create their own poetry book.


English - Poetry

Students will be writing a haiku poem, an acrostic poem, and a Five "W" poem for their poetry books. These poems will incorporate personification, similes, metaphors, and onomatopoeia. Please ask to see your child's poetry packet for details on requirements for each poem.

Social Studies - The Southwest
The test on the SW (Ch. 10, Lesson 1, 2, 3 and Ch. 11, Lesson 1 only) will be on Wednesday, May 15th!  STUDY!

The final stop on our journey through the regions of the U.S. will be the West. We will begin with a look at the geography and climate of the region. Students will also create their own map of the West region. Look for the West map QUIZ to be scheduled the week of 5/20.


Mrs. Spakausky's Math Class:Unit 7 Fractions

Module 1 Comparing Fractions & Writing Equivalent Fractions
Students use bar models and number lines to represent, compare, and order fractions with unlike denominators. After a careful review of equivalent fractions, students are challenged to compare pairs of fractions with unlike denominators that are not factors or multiples of each other, such as 4/5 and 5/6 or 3/8 and 4/12.
