We have started to learn about how informational texts are set up.  We read about hurricanes this week!  Next week we will read volcanoes.  We will practice summarizing and using the context to identify the main idea of our text.

We will begin to read some informational text in our anthology book.  We will read several stories.  One will be about lightning and another about volcanoes.  We will practice summarizing and using the context to identify the main idea of each section of our text.

What kinds of experiments will we do this week?  Be sure to ask your child what experiment we did in class.  How did we use the scientific method with the experiment?

Reading: Tall Tales
We will continue to use tall tale stories to identify story structure, distinguish between exaggerated and realistic story elements, and visualize story elements We will also use context clues to define unknown words.

We will begin to write our own tall tales!  What FUN!!!  The students will complete a sloppy copy and then we will be typing the final copy on Thursday!
