Reading: Close Reading
We started reading this week with learning about close reading.  The students learned about text marking and reading deeper to help with understanding of complex texts.

Writing: 6 Traits
We will start discussing what the 6-Traits of writing are and have mini-lessons to help us strengthen our skills.  To learn more about the six traits watch the following video clip:

Social Studies: Chapter 4-"Spain Builds an Empire"
We will begin with chapter 4 this year.
Lesson 1-The Voyages of Columbus and what it led to
Lesson 2-Different Worlds Collide-Spanish conquistadors establish new colonies in North America and South America
Lesson 3-Life in New Spain-Spain gaining wealth from the settlement in North America


Science: Science Inquiry

In science we will start with the first section about "Getting Ready for Science."

Lesson 2-What Inquiry Skills Do Scientists Use
Lesson 3-What is the Scientific Method?


Math:  We started math today and you'll learn more about our new math series at Curriculum Night on Wednesday.
