Reading: Theme: Challenges
We will be reading and discussing how challenges relate to the songs.  We will then look at a chapter from a book called, Spirit Bear.  We will discuss challenges that the main character, Cole, is facing.  We will end our Unit 1-Challenges with a Glogster Poster about a famous person who had challenges and overcame them to become successful.


Language skills:  Theme, Conjunctions, Titles and Interjections.


Social Studies: Chapter 6-"Life in the Colonies "

Lesson 1-1700s-West Africa-The slave trade continues to grow.
Lesson 2-1723-Philadelphia-Benjamin Franklin moves to Philadelphia and works as a printer.
Lesson 3-1735-New York-The trial of John Peter Zenger wins the first victory for freedom of the press.
Lesson 4-1739-South Carolina-Enslaved people clash with slave owners in the Stono Rebellion.



Science: Chapter 15-Energy-"Energy exists in many forms and can be changed from one form to another."

Lesson 1-What Are Kinetic and Potential Energy?
Lesson 2-What Are Some Forms of Energy?
Lesson 3-How Is Heat Transferred?
Lesson 4-How Do People Use Energy Resources?

Mrs. Spakausky's Math Class:  Unit 3:
Module 1-Whole Numbers and Decimal Place Value  
(multiply and divide by 10, base 10)

Module 2-Adding and Subtracting Decimals  
(draw and compare decimals, round and add 10ths, charting decimals and fraction equivalencies, fraction and decimal equivalencies, decimals on a number line)

Module 3-Conversions
(metric conversions, place value patterns)

Module 4-Division and the Area Model
(writing division story problems, solving student-posed story problems, division)
