ELA---

English/Words skills: Theme
We will be learning about theme and discussing themes in the stories we read.
What is theme?
The theme in a story is its underlying message, or 'big idea.' In other words, what critical belief about life is the author trying to convey in the writing of a novel, play, short story or poem?  It is usually universal in nature. Often, a piece of writing will have more than one theme.

Reading:
We will be finishing up A Boy Called Slow and we will move on to reading excerpts from a novel called, Touching Spirit Bear.

Word Work:Unit 3

What kinds of words can you think of that have these parts in them?

Writing: Hallow-Weiner
We have read a story called, Hallo-Weiner.  Have your student tell you about it.  We will be making our Halloween "dogs" next week.  What costume will your child pick for his/her dog?
