Reading: Historical Fiction Novels

Historical Fiction unit:
Week of Feb. 3-7
Reading assignment and homework will be from Day 1 and Day 2.

Week of Feb. 10-14
Monday-Thursday we will do Day 3-6 assignments.

HOMEWORK-due Tues., 2/18-Use this link to complete Day 6 homework for reading, instead of the sheet in their packet.
Week of Feb. 17-21Tuesday-Thursday we will do Day 7-9 assignments.

Week of Feb. 24-28
Monday and Tuesday will be Day 10 and 11 reading assignments.
Begin final projects!

Please have your child share their reading "role" with you at home, each night.  Ask them questions about the book they are reading and have them retell you what they have read, so far:) ENJOY!


Social Studies: Chapter 7-

Next, we will start chapter 7-"The Fight for a Continent".   

We will learn about:

Lesson 1-New Mexico-The Pueblo leader Pope' leads a revolt against the Spanish
Lesson 2:  New Orleans-The French establish a port city near the mouth of the Mississippi
Lesson 3 :Fort Necessity-George Washington's troops lose a battle to French soldiers

There will be a quiz after each lesson!!!



Science: Ch. 1-Weather
We will learn about weather next!  What do you know about thermometers, temperature, air pressure, fronts, sea breezes, land breezes, etc.???  We will learn many "cool" facts in this next chapter!

Mrs. Spakausky's Math Class: 
We will start Ch. 6 on Monday.  This chapter is about multiplying and dividing decimals!

CH. 6-DECIMALS----

Chapter 5-: Multiply and Divide Decimals

Common Core State Standards:
5.NBT.2-Explain patterns in the number of zeros of the product when multiplying a number by powers of 10, and explain patterns in the placement of the decimal point when a decimal is multiplied or divided by a power of 10.  Use whole-number exponents to denote powers of 10.

5.NBT.4:  Use place value understanding to round decimals to any place.

5.NBT.5: Fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.

5.NBT.7:  Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used.
