ELA-English: Chapter 1-"The Sentence"

ELA-Reading: Challenges
Next, we will read about a Native American boy, called Slow and talk about his challenges and how they relate back to our 3 essential questions in reading.  This story is in our anthology.

1)  How can challenges affect yourself and those around you?
2)  How do characters, real or fiction, respond to challenges in positive and negative ways?
3)  How are challenges conquered in literature and informational text?

Science: Chapter 5-Ecosystems
We will move to "Energy and Ecosystems" next.  In this chapter we will answer the following essential questions:
How Do Plants Produce Food? and How Is Energy Passed Through an Ecosystem?

We will learn about transpiration, photosynthesis, chlorophyll, producers and consumers in lesson 1 and ecosystems, herbivores, carnivores, food chains, decomposes, food webs and energy pyramids in lesson 2.

Mrs. Spakausky's Math Class: Chapter 5-
Common Core Standards:  5.NBT.4-Use place value understanding to round decimals to any place
5.NBT.7-Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used.
We will begin chapter 5 next.  This chapter will focus on:
*Round Decimals
*Estimate Sums and Differences
*Problem Solving:Estimating or Exact Answers
* Adding Decimals
*Addition Properties (Associative, Commutative, and Identity Properties)
*Subtract Decimals
