Math Fun---Learning about Volume and multiplication patterns with our omnifix cubes














Science Fun---"Sewer Maggots"
Ask you child about our observations and experiment!
What is the purpose of the "sewer maggot?"




Spelling/Vocabulary: Lesson 1: Wordly Wise
We will flip flop with spelling units and word work units.  
We will work on it together next week.
We will also be doing lessons on root words.


Reading: Close Reading
We will continue to do some practice with close reading.  The students learned about text marking and reading deeper to help with understanding of complex texts. 


Writing: Figurative Language
We started this week learning about onomatopoeia and alliteration.  We practice some writing using these two techniques.  Ask your child what these types of figurative language are.


Social Studies: Chapter 4-"Spain Builds an Empire"
We will begin with chapter 4 this year.
Lesson 1-The Voyages of Columbus and what it led to
Lesson 2-Different Worlds Collide-Spanish conquistadors establish new colonies in North America and South America
Lesson 3-Life in New Spain-Spain gaining wealth from the settlement in North America


Science: Science Inquiry

In science we will start with the first section about "Getting Ready for Science."
What is the Scientific Method?  We will continue to discuss the scientific method next week.


Math:  Volume and number patterns were the focus of this week.
